Philosopher's Way, San Francisco

other

The trail you are walking is known as the Philosopher's Way, a two point seven mile loop that circles the perimeter of John McLaren Park. Designed by artists Peter Richards and Susan Schwartzenberg, this path opened in two thousand thirteen with the intention of transforming a simple hike into a space for intellectual reflection. It serves as the first and only trail in the United States specifically dedicated to the practice of philosopher's walks, a tradition famously found in cities like Heidelberg and Kyoto where scholars once wandered to debate and consider the ideas of their time.
