The stairs you are standing before represent a radical transformation of a local landmark known as the Goettingen Street stairs. For years, this hillside corridor was a neglected site marred by illegal dumping, graffiti, and criminal activity. In two thousand six, a dedicated group of local residents formed the Goettingen Neighbors Group to reclaim this forgotten fragment of their district. Through years of volunteer labor, they cleared the debris, installed retaining walls, and landscaped the hill with native plants. Their efforts turned a dangerous thoroughfare into a community vista point that now links the neighborhood to the busy commercial corridor of San Bruno Avenue.
