Sylvester House

The Sylvester House at fifteen fifty-six Revere Avenue stands as a rare surviving piece of San Francisco's rural past. Built between eighteen sixty-five and eighteen seventy, the Italianate Victorian served as the farmhouse for a large cattle ranch when the surrounding Bayview district was mostly open grazing land. Its original owner, Daniel Sylvester, was a German immigrant who worked as a wholesale butcher in the area then known as Butchertown. This house was the center of a bustling agricultural operation before the city's modern street grid transformed the landscape into the neighborhood you see today.
