India Basin Waterfront Park

India Basin Waterfront Park stands on land that carries over a century of maritime history. By the late nineteenth century, this stretch of shoreline hosted a thriving boatbuilding industry where skilled shipwrights constructed wooden scow schooners to carry goods across the San Francisco Bay. The site also supported Chinese fishing camps, where laborers harvested shrimp from the mudflats for the local market. This era of activity laid the foundation for the area's identity as a working waterfront long before it became a park.
