Hunter's Point

Hunters Point occupies a prominent peninsula named for the Hunter family, who made their home along this stretch of the San Francisco Bay in the nineteenth century. Long before the era of heavy industry, the shoreline served as a favored fishing ground for the native Ramaytush Ohlone people, who traversed the waters in tule reed canoes to harvest shellfish. The geography of the site, defined by its deep water access and solid rock foundation, eventually invited a different kind of activity that would reshape the landscape entirely.
