You are standing at the intersection of Palou Avenue and Phelps Street in a neighborhood called Silver Terrace. This spot sits on one of the highest points in the area, offering a vantage point that once looked out over a vast, marshy tidal cove fed by Islais Creek. In the nineteenth century, this entire basin was a sprawling wetland before it was filled in to create the industrial landscape and residential streets you see today.
