The Farm (San Francisco)

You are approaching a site that for thirteen years served as a radical experiment in urban living. Starting in nineteen seventy-four, artists Bonnie Ora Sherk and Jack Wickert transformed a derelict, concrete wasteland beneath the Army Street freeway interchange into a thriving, multi-acre environmental sculpture. They called this project The Farm, and it functioned as a genuine, working oasis where corn, fruit trees, and vegetable gardens grew amidst the roar of traffic.
