Balmy Alley

landmark

Balmy Alley holds the highest concentration of murals in San Francisco. This single block between twenty-fourth and twenty-fifth streets acts as a vibrant outdoor gallery where nearly every garage door and fence serves as a canvas. The project began in the early nineteen seventies when local artists and children started painting the alley walls to reclaim their community space. It eventually transformed into a major hub for politically charged art that continues to evolve today.
