Lilac Alley Murals

Lilac Alley serves as a living gallery born from a need for safety and community transformation. Around two decades ago, local residents Lisa Brewer and Randolph Bowes faced a neighborhood plagued by gang violence and persistent tagging. Rather than moving away, they reached out to property owners to secure permission for artists to paint the backs of their buildings. This effort successfully replaced the climate of fear with a vibrant, constantly changing display of public art. Today, the alley functions as a designated space where artists from across the globe are invited to contribute their work, turning a previously neglected thoroughfare into a protected environment for creative expression.
