Liberty Street Historic District (San Francisco, California)

The Liberty Street Historic District serves as a remarkably preserved time capsule of middle-class life in San Francisco during the late nineteenth century. Spanning two quiet blocks between Valencia and Guerrero streets, this enclave survived the fires that devastated much of the city following the 1906 earthquake. Because it avoided that destruction, it maintains an unusually concentrated collection of Victorian-era architecture, including Italianate, Stick, and Queen Anne styles. Walking here, you can see exactly how the city's middle-class residents lived and built their homes between 1867 and 1911.
