Carnaval Mural

You are standing before one of the most prominent landmarks in the Mission District, a seventy-five-foot wide painting often called the Golden Dreams of La Mision. Painted in nineteen eighty-three by lead artist Daniel Galvez and his team, this mural captures the raw energy of the city's inaugural Carnaval parade, which had taken place just a few years earlier in nineteen seventy-nine. Every person depicted in the mural was modeled after a real individual who participated in those early neighborhood celebrations.
