Southern Exposure

Southern Exposure started in nineteen seventy-four as a grassroots collective housed within an old American Can Company factory. The group originally named themselves the American Can Collective, but they quickly received a cease and desist letter from the corporation. For a brief and humorous period, they rebranded as the American Cant Collective before eventually settling on the name Southern Exposure. That title was chosen both to reference their location south of the city's main financial district and to highlight their mission of exposing the work of emerging artists.
