Old Paul Avenue SP/Caltrain station

The Paul Avenue station site in the Bayview neighborhood marks a quiet, empty stretch of track where a train stop once stood. For decades, this location was an outlier on the commuter rail line, characterized by its crumbling infrastructure, isolated ravine setting, and consistently low ridership. In its final years of operation, it served only a handful of passengers daily, with no weekend service at all, leading to its official closure in August of 2005. While the platforms and passenger shelters were eventually demolished in 2009 to secure the area, the site remains a focal point for city planners. It has become a symbol of the long-standing effort to better connect the Bayview community to the regional rail network. While trains still pass through this corridor regularly, they no longer stop here, and the spot is now defined by the high fences installed to discourage access to what was once a neglected and debris-filled transit stop.
