The Alta Cienega Motel holds a neon sign that buzzes with a script font, marking the spot where Jim Morrison lived in room thirty-two for several years. Before he became the lead singer of The Doors, Morrison crashed here, often staying in the motel to write lyrics while his girlfriend, Pamela Courson, managed the place. He scribbled poems on the walls and kept the room in a state of disarray. The motel retains its modest, mid-century courtyard layout from that time.
