The Alhambra Entrance stands as a double-arched gateway constructed of rough-hewn coral rock, marking a formal threshold into George Merrick’s vision for Coral Gables. In nineteen twenty-two, Merrick tasked architect Denman Fink with creating an entryway that mirrored the Mediterranean Revival style he envisioned for the entire city. While laborers hauled local limestone to build the structure, they embedded colorful ceramic tiles into the archways. This gateway remains the oldest of the city’s planned entrances, signaling an entry into a dream.
