Giralda Plaza features a wide, brick-paved corridor closed to vehicle traffic, punctuated by clusters of umbrella-topped tables and string lights stretching between buildings. Developer George Merrick originally planned this area as part of his Mediterranean-inspired dream for Coral Gables in the nineteen twenties. While the surrounding city grew rapidly, this street remained a quiet thoroughfare until the city converted it into a pedestrian-only promenade in twenty seventeen. Local artists occasionally paint murals on the asphalt, reflecting the neighborhood's long artistic history.
