Galiano-Alhambra Gazebo Fountain

The Galiano-Alhambra Gazebo Fountain rises as a limestone structure topped with a distinct copper-clad dome at a prominent intersection in Coral Gables. George Merrick commissioned this centerpiece in the nineteen twenties to serve as a landmark for his planned community. He envisioned Mediterranean-style details to define the city's architectural identity. A local legend claims that during the Great Depression, a resident used the fountain’s basin to wash his laundry, only to be politely asked by a city official to take his business elsewhere.
