9/11 Memorial Weehawken

The two massive steel beams standing before you are known as tridents. These structures were salvaged from the base of the original World Trade Center towers where they once served as critical load-bearing components. Each of these salvaged pieces weighs fifty thousand pounds and stretches thirty feet into the air. They were designed by Lukens Steel Company and originally functioned as part of the exterior skeletal framework of the towers, rising from the foundation to the upper floors. After the attacks, these remnants were recovered from the wreckage and later transported to this waterfront location to serve as a permanent monument.
