War Memorial

The pyramid-shaped World War I memorial in Veterans Park is a distinct local landmark built between nineteen thirty-five and nineteen thirty-six. It was constructed under the Works Progress Administration, a federal program that employed millions of Americans during the Great Depression. The white concrete structure sits on a two-stepped base and features three bronze bas-relief panels aligned vertically on its front face. These panels honor the different branches of service by depicting the busts of a soldier, a sailor, and a female nurse.
