Brant Foundation

The Brant Foundation Art Study Center occupies a building that began its life in the nineteen twenties as a gritty electrical substation for Consolidated Edison. This utilitarian brick structure remained a piece of industrial infrastructure for decades before it underwent a radical transformation into a private studio for the renowned artist Walter De Maria. De Maria worked within these walls from the mid-nineteen eighties until his death in two thousand thirteen, utilizing the cavernous, raw interior to house his practice.
