Creative Little Garden

The Creative Little Garden occupies a site where a tenement building once stood until it burned down in the early nineteen seventies. After the debris was cleared, the land sat empty for several years before local residents reclaimed it, turning a vacant, rubble-strewn lot into a community space that officially opened in nineteen seventy-eight. This transformation was part of a larger wave of neighborhood activism in the East Village, where residents took it upon themselves to stabilize city blocks by converting neglected spaces into shared green sanctuaries.
