Mabou Mines

The name Mabou Mines comes from a tiny, remote village in Nova Scotia. In the summer of 1970, a small group of artists retreated to a farmhouse near that village to create their first work, The Red Horse Animation. They felt the name captured their spirit of isolation and deep, collaborative investigation, and they carried that title back to New York City to launch one of the most influential avant-garde theater collectives in American history.
