The Metropolitan Playhouse, located on East Fourth Street, established itself by transforming a space inside the Cornelia Connelly Center into an intimate, fifty-one-seat theater. This small venue featured a three-quarter thrust stage, an architectural choice that placed the audience in close proximity to the actors to create a deeply immersive experience. The company transformed this specific room in 1997, turning a corner of a local community building into a site dedicated to excavating forgotten American theatrical works.
