Kings County Distillery

Kings County Distillery stands inside the historic Paymaster Building, a structure that has occupied the Brooklyn Navy Yard for over one hundred years. It functions as the oldest operating whiskey distillery in New York City and the first to open since the end of Prohibition in 1933. The distillery occupies a location near the site of the infamous Brooklyn Whiskey Wars of the 1860s, a period defined by violent clashes between local distillers and federal authorities. While many large producers rely on efficient column stills, this distillery utilizes traditional Scottish copper pot stills and open fermentation to craft its spirits, an approach that favors texture and sensory profile over industrial speed.
