Squibb Park

Squibb Park is named for Doctor Edward Robinson Squibb, a naval surgeon and pharmaceutical pioneer who lived on nearby Middagh Street in the nineteenth century. He gained fame for developing a method to distill pure ether, which made its use as an anesthetic significantly safer for patients. If you look at the buildings located behind the park playground, you can still see the name Squibb etched onto the original brick smokestacks of his former laboratory.
