The DUMBO Walls represent a deliberate effort to reclaim the neighborhood's industrial grit through vibrant, large-scale public art. Beginning in 2012, a series of murals was commissioned to transform the stark, concrete underpasses of the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway into a concentrated outdoor gallery. By inviting renowned street artists to work on these heavy infrastructure surfaces, the project turned what was once a series of drab, utilitarian transit zones into a landmark destination for creative expression.
