The sculpture towering above you is titled Unity, and it stands twenty-two and a half feet tall. Created by artist Hank Willis Thomas, this massive bronze arm depicts an outstretched hand with its index finger pointing directly toward the sky. It was intentionally placed on the traffic median at the intersection of Tillary and Adams Streets to welcome travelers arriving from the Brooklyn Bridge. The artist designed the piece to serve as a call to action for New Yorkers, encouraging busy pedestrians to pause and physically look up at the horizon.
