Pier 16

Pier 16 serves as the final resting place for a fleet of historic vessels that once defined New York City as a global maritime power. The most prominent among them is the Wavertree, a massive, three-masted cargo ship built in eighteen eighty-five of riveted wrought iron. This ship arrived in New York to haul goods across the ocean during the height of the sailing era. Today, it sits permanently moored here, allowing visitors to walk its decks and enter its cavernous cargo hold, which is known to those who maintain it as the Cathedral.
