Parkways

You are approaching a site that represents a modern evolution of urban space. Parkways operates out of Building 131 here within the Brooklyn Navy Yard. This organization began as a research group at the MIT Media Lab in 2016. They design and implement modular parklets using recycled and responsibly harvested materials. By working with local businesses and community members, they create small, intentional interventions that change how people interact with their streets. These micro-level designs serve as a testing ground for broader ideas about how urban environments can be shaped to better serve the public.
