CPR - Center for Performance Research

cultural

The Center for Performance Research began as a collaborative project founded by the renowned dance companies Movement Research and the Joyce Theater Foundation. They transformed a former warehouse space into a dedicated environment for artists to develop new work away from the pressures of commercial production. This specific building layout prioritizes the creative process by offering affordable rehearsal studios that feature sprung floors and high ceilings, which are essential tools for professional dancers. By removing the demand for immediate public performance, the center serves as a laboratory where choreography is tested and refined through quiet, intensive practice.
