Corbin Building

The Corbin Building stands as a direct link to the dawn of the skyscraper era. Completed in eighteen eighty-nine, it marks a bridge between the traditional masonry buildings of the past and the steel-framed giants that followed. Its architect, Francis Hatch Kimball, utilized cast-iron columns and wrought-iron beams to support the structure, a transitional method known as cage construction. This allowed the building to rise nine stories high, making it significantly taller than the typical structures of its time.
