New York City Police Museum

The building you see at one hundred Old Slip began its life as the First Precinct police station, an Italian Renaissance palazzo built between nineteen hundred nine and nineteen hundred eleven. Architects Richard and Joseph Hunt designed this structure to serve as a model station house, and for decades it functioned as the most important police precinct in the world. Its bold, rusticated facade reflects the immense authority the department held in this bustling financial hub. The building ceased its original police operations in nineteen seventy-three, eventually finding new purpose as a museum dedicated to the history of the New York City Police Department.
