Grey Art Museum

The Grey Art Museum serves as the fine arts museum for New York University. It maintains a collection of over six thousand works that focus heavily on American painting from the nineteen-forties to the present. While the museum is a staple of the university today, its identity is rooted in a major donation from Abby Weed Grey in the mid-nineteen-seventies. She was an avid collector of modern art from Asia and the Middle East, and her initial gift helped establish the institution as a dedicated space for scholarly and experimental exhibitions.
