You are walking toward what was once the center of gravity for live music in Greenwich Village. At fifteen West Fourth Street, the Bottom Line operated for three decades as a sanctuary for serious listening. Founders Allan Pepper and Stanley Snadowsky opened the club in nineteen seventy-four with a clear mandate: the performance mattered more than the profit. They stripped away the typical nightclub requirements, meaning there were no drink minimums and no distractions from the stage. The club seated only about four hundred people, creating a rare intimacy where musicians could see and feel the energy of every person in the room.
