Savoy Theatre (New York City)

The Savoy Theatre that once stood at one hundred twelve West Thirty-fourth Street was a product of unusual urban real estate, constructed in nineteen hundred by merging three separate residences that spanned the blocks between thirty-third and thirty-fourth streets. The building originally opened as Schley Music Hall, but it struggled under that name and was quickly rebranded. It featured a tight, eighteen-foot frontage on the busy thirty-fourth street side, a surprisingly narrow threshold for a venue that seated over eight hundred people inside. The interior layout was equally distinctive, relying on folding chairs rather than fixed seating to accommodate crowds, while six sets of ornate boxes flanked the stage to offer a touch of grandeur in what was essentially an oversized, repurposed townhouse.
