event

WNYX-LD was a low-power television station with a colorful and complex broadcast history. It began its life in nineteen eighty as a Long Island station called W fifty-nine AT, originally focused on airing instructional programming and music videos. Over the next four decades, it underwent several name changes, ownership shifts, and physical moves before settling into its final identity as a New York City station. During the nineteen nineties and early two thousands, the station became a curious home for diverse community programming, including everything from psychic tarot readings to one of the few regularly scheduled programs for the local LGBTQ+ community. Its eventual closure in twenty twenty-three marked the end of a long, experimental era in local broadcasting.
