Pier 54 stands as a site of profound maritime history, serving as the North American home for the Cunard Line during the early twentieth century. It was here, in April 1912, that the RMS Carpathia docked to deliver the survivors of the Titanic disaster to a crowd of thousands waiting in anxious silence. Three years later, the pier became a point of departure for the RMS Lusitania, which set sail from this very spot on its final, tragic voyage before being torpedoed during the First World War. The weathered steel archway that you see today is the last remaining structural fragment of the original Cunard White Star building that once defined this bustling gateway to the Atlantic.
