21 Club

The iron gates you see standing guard at the entrance to the 21 Club carry a history of migration. They were originally installed at a different location on 42nd Street in 1926, when the founders operated a spot called the Puncheon Grotto. When they were forced to move because of the looming construction of Rockefeller Center, they simply unhinged the wrought-iron gate and brought it with them to this building on 52nd Street. The gates remain a permanent symbol of the club's resilience and its deep roots in the city's clandestine past.
