SUMMIT One Vanderbilt rises over fourteen hundred feet above the city streets. Its tapered, interlocking planes were designed to spiral toward the sky, a structural choice that allows more natural light to reach the historic Grand Central Terminal sitting directly below. The construction of the tower required the largest continuous concrete pour in New York City history, spanning eighteen hours and utilizing over four thousand cubic yards of material. To manage the building's sway and maintain stability at such a staggering height, a ten-ton tuned mass damper is hidden away within the crown of the skyscraper.
