The Chanin Building stands as a monumental tribute to the personal history of its developer, Irwin Chanin. Just two decades before the skyscraper opened in 1929, Chanin was an engineer working on the construction of the city subway system with little more than two hundred dollars to his name. He eventually transitioned into real estate, and he intended for this building to serve as a physical embodiment of the American Dream and a center for business efficiency.
