Daily News Building

The Daily News Building is a masterpiece of Art Deco design that forever changed the New York City skyline. Completed in nineteen thirty, it was the first skyscraper in the city to intentionally strip away the decorative, historical flourishes common to buildings of that era. Architect Raymond Hood, who designed the structure, favored a radical simplicity, choosing to emphasize clean, vertical lines and bold, geometric massing. He famously opted for a flat, unadorned top instead of the elaborate spires that dominated the architecture of the time, making the building a daring example of modernism in the heart of midtown.
