Scandinavia House – The Nordic Center in America

Scandinavia House serves as the public face of the American-Scandinavian Foundation, an organization that has fostered ties between the United States and the Nordic nations since its founding in 1911. Before this building opened in 2000, the foundation operated out of a modest townhouse that lacked the space for large-scale public engagement. The creation of this center was jump-started by a significant anonymous donation, later revealed to be from the Danish shipping magnate Maersk Mc-Kinney Moller. His support allowed the foundation to finally establish a permanent, dedicated home to showcase the art, literature, and culture of Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway, and Sweden in the heart of Manhattan.
