The Corinthian (Manhattan)

The Corinthian stands out in the Manhattan skyline due to its unconventional, rounded form. Unlike the many boxy skyscrapers surrounding it, this fifty-seven-story tower features fluted, curved towers and semicircular bay windows that depart from traditional rectilinear architecture. Completed in nineteen eighty-eight, the design was intended to mimic the classic, elegant look of a Corinthian column, which is how it earned its name. These curves serve a practical purpose beyond their appearance, as they allow every apartment in the building to offer a one-hundred-and-eighty-degree view of the city.
