Bayard–Condict Building

The Bayard-Condict Building is the only structure in New York City designed by the legendary architect Louis Sullivan. Completed in eighteen ninety-nine, it stands as a pioneer of the Chicago School style in a city that was otherwise dominated by historical, classical designs. While other architects at the time disguised their steel frames behind stone facades, Sullivan chose to emphasize the building's verticality and modern structural reality. This approach represents an early, bold attempt to define the skyscraper as a unique architectural form rather than a taller version of traditional masonry buildings.
