Planthouse

Planthouse Gallery was founded in 2013 by Katie Michel, a graphic designer and printer who spent over two decades working at the renowned Grenfell Press. The gallery began its life in a former flower shop in New York City, and it adopted the name Planthouse as a direct nod to that original setting in the city's historic flower district. The gallery functions as a project space dedicated to both publishing and exhibiting the work of emerging and established artists. Its influence extends far beyond its physical walls, as publications produced by the gallery have been acquired by major institutions including The Metropolitan Museum of Art, The Museum of Modern Art, and the Beinecke Rare Book and Manuscript Library at Yale University. Throughout its history, the gallery has relocated several times, tracing a path through neighborhoods deeply tied to New York's cultural past. After its time in the flower district, it moved to a space on West 28th Street within the strip known as Tin Pan Alley, which served as the epicenter for American music publishing in the early twentieth century. In 2025, the gallery transitioned to its current home in Chelsea, continuing its mission to foster artistic collaboration and print media.
