69th Regiment Armory

The Sixty-Ninth Regiment Armory is a massive red-brick structure that broke with the architectural traditions of its time. When it opened in nineteen oh six, it became the first armory in New York City to abandon the standard medieval fortress design featuring turrets and crenellated towers. Instead, the architects Hunt and Hunt opted for a Beaux-Arts style, emphasizing classical proportions and a grand, arched entrance to convey strength through refined design rather than imitation of a castle.
