OK Harris Gallery

museum

The OK Harris Gallery stands as a foundational site for the SoHo art district. When Ivan Karp founded the gallery here in 1969, the neighborhood was still largely industrial. Karp chose the name OK Harris because he liked the sound of it, imagining it belonged to a fictional riverboat gambler. By opening his doors on West Broadway, he helped transform the area into the center of the contemporary art world.
