Park Avenue station (BMT Jamaica Line)

The station you are looking for, the Park Avenue station on the BMT Jamaica Line, no longer exists today. It was an elevated transit stop located at the intersection of Park Avenue and Broadway in Brooklyn. The station opened on June 25, 1888, serving the early elevated railway system that predated the modern subway network. It was closed on June 5, 1916, to make way for massive structural upgrades across the Jamaica Line known as the Dual Contracts. Engineers at the time were modernizing the elevated structure to support heavier subway cars and adding a third track for express service. Because the old Park Avenue station was located too close to the nearby stations at Flushing Avenue and Myrtle Avenue, it was deemed redundant and demolished during this reconstruction. Unlike other parts of the New York City transit system that were electrified and preserved, the original route associated with this station represents a rare instance where a segment of the elevated railway was permanently abandoned and removed entirely from the map.
