Cunard White Star Pier/Pier 54

The steel archway standing before you is the last remaining structural fragment of Pier 54. Designed by the same architectural firm that created Grand Central Terminal, this gateway once served as the bustling threshold for the Cunard White Star Line during the early twentieth century. It was here that the luxury ocean liners of the era docked, connecting Manhattan to the rest of the world. While the original shed was destroyed in a massive fire in 1932, the archway remains as a silent monument to the maritime history of the Hudson River waterfront.
