Beekman Tower

When the Beekman Tower opened in 1928, it was known as the Panhellenic House. It stood as a residential clubhouse exclusively for women who were members of college sororities. Its founder, Emily Eaton Hepburn, was a suffragette and real estate entrepreneur who recognized a critical need for safe, independent housing for the growing number of professional women moving to New York City. At the time, it was the only hotel in the city owned and managed by women.
